"I only got into Ruth Ware this year and reading her novels is what’s got me craving all crime all time, so I was very pleased to read her forthcoming thriller One By One.

In a throwback to the classic locked-room mystery, a team of colleagues from a popular music app on a corporate retreat find themselves trapped in a chalet in the French Alps after an avalanche—and after one of the app’s founders disappears on the ski slopes in suspicious circumstances. As those who discover too much about what happened on the slopes are silenced, it quickly becomes apparent that one member of this team cannot be trusted.

The chapters alternate between our two narrators. Erin hosts guests in the chalet, has a traumatic past and a buried connection with this particular group. Liz is a former employee who has been invited along to help settle the decision of the company’s buyout but she is not happy to be back in the fold. The layers of these two women’s lives are peeled away in short, suspenseful chapters and the story races towards an inevitably bloody conclusion.

One By One is an absorbing and thoroughly entertaining mystery with a thrilling ending, and Ware is now a firm favourite of mine. It’s due to be released here in Australia in September."
